Waiting

A/N; it's kinda sad I guess.

Sunlight streamed in through light colored curtains and a body gently stirred. Matthew Williams, the human personification of Canada, reached towards the left side of the bed, trying to find the warm body of the one he loved, but touched only cold sheets.

He sat up a little and his mind began to clear. No one was sharing his bed, nor would anyone. At least, not any more.

With a soft quivering sigh, Matthew pulled off the maple leaf printed comforter you had bought him for Christmas last year and brought his feet over the edge of the lonely bed to rest in a pair of slippers.

The cozy little house that had once been filled with laughter and other happy sounds was now utterly quiet, except for the sounds of the Canadian making his way to the bathroom.

Once inside the washroom, he peered into the mirror to find sad and tired indigo eyes that looked like they were on the brink of tears and surely were. He quietly disrobed, climbed into the spotless shower and turned on the water. Matthew solemnly went through the routine of cleaning and getting himself clothed for the day. All in silence.

Matthew hadn't spoken a word since you had gone and felt it should be that way; he missed your voice and didn't want to answer to any other.

Now in the kitchen, Matthew collected all the ingredients for his daily meal of pancakes doused in maple syrup. Pinned to the fridge was a picture of you and Matthew in the snow, a wide sweet smile plastered on your beautiful face with (s/c) arms wrapped tightly around the equally as happy Canadian. You looked so pretty, so happy, and so in love. He had just proposed and to his infinite delight, you had agreed to marry him. Although, it really wasn't possible for you to say no to the sweet man.

Matthew had been so dreadfully nervous that you wouldn't say yes that it took him nearly two months to work up the courage to ask. With help from his enthusiastic brother and father, he had managed to ask and of course, you had said yes.

Snapping out of his trance, he refocused on the task at hand.

~Time skip~

It was now afternoon and Matthew was sitting in your favorite plush armchair near the fire. The sun might've been out, but it was still freezing in the Canadian wilderness.

He stared out the window as if waiting for someone to arrive. Matthew spent nearly every afternoon like that, or doing an activity similar.

"Please come home, ____...." Matthew pleaded in his head, "I really miss you.."

Hours passed and he finally got up to sleep. Alone. Again.

With bubbily, blueish purple eyes, he laid in bed, trying not to remember what happened months ago and wished for you to come home.

But you weren't going to.

Not with all the tears and begs in all the Great White North.

Because no matter how hard you wish, no one can come back from the dead.
Oh dear, I decided to take a break from lemons and this happens.

I'm so sorry.

And if you were wondering, I didn't decide on how the reader died, so it's more of an open ended type thing.
